Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) pasta of your choice (fettuccine, penne, or rigatoni work well)
- 6 slices beef bacon, chopped
- 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (if needed)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a slight kick)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining. Set aside.
- While the pasta cooks, heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the chopped beef bacon and cook until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and place on a paper-towel-lined plate. Leave 1-2 tablespoons of bacon fat in the skillet; drain any excess.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet with the bacon fat (add olive oil if there isn’t enough fat). Break up the beef with a spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease and set the cooked beef aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the beef broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze and release any browned bits. Bring to a simmer.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, allowing it to slightly thicken.
- Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Taste and season with salt as needed (the bacon and broth add salt, so season carefully).
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash or two of the reserved pasta water until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Stir in most of the crispy beef bacon, reserving some for garnish. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese and reserved crispy bacon.
- Enjoy your ultimate comfort food masterpiece!
