Ingredients

  • 1 (3.4 oz) package instant vanilla or white chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Patriotic sprinkles or small candies, for garnish (optional)
  • 6-8 clear individual serving cups

Instructions

  1. Place chocolate sandwich cookies in a Ziploc bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin or pulse them in a food processor. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes, or until thickened. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Gently fold in about half of the thawed whipped topping into the pudding mixture until just combined.
  4. Divide the pudding mixture equally into three separate bowls.
  5. Add several drops of red food coloring to one bowl and stir until a vibrant red color is achieved.
  6. Add several drops of blue food coloring to another bowl and stir until a vibrant blue color is achieved. Leave the third bowl white.
  7. To assemble the dirt cups: Start with a layer of crushed cookies (about 1-2 tablespoons) at the bottom of each clear serving cup.
  8. Top the cookie layer with a spoonful of the red pudding mixture, spreading it gently.
  9. Add another layer of crushed cookies.
  10. Follow with a spoonful of the white pudding mixture.
  11. Add a third layer of crushed cookies.
  12. Finish with a spoonful of the blue pudding mixture.
  13. Top each cup with a final sprinkle of crushed cookies, and a dollop of the remaining whipped topping.
  14. Garnish with patriotic sprinkles or candies, if desired.
  15. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld.
