Instructions

  1. 1. Prepare Basic Cooked Rice:
  2. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents stickiness.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water or vegetable broth, olive oil or butter, and salt.
  4. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it stand, covered, for another 5 minutes. Do not lift the lid. This allows the rice to finish steaming and become fluffy.
  6. Fluff the cooked rice gently with a fork. Divide into 8 portions if you plan to make all variations, or use one portion (approx. 1.5 cups cooked rice) for your chosen variation.
  7. 2. To Make Lemon Herb Rice:
  8. To one portion of hot cooked rice, add the fresh lemon juice, chopped fresh parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently until all ingredients are well combined and the rice is evenly coated.
  9. 3. To Make Garlic Parmesan Rice:
  10. In a small skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to brown the garlic. Remove from heat.
  11. Add the garlic butter mixture to one portion of hot cooked rice. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and fresh chives until the cheese is melted and evenly distributed.
  12. 4. To Make Tomato Basil Rice:
  13. To one portion of hot cooked rice, add the drained diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped fresh basil, garlic powder, and an optional pinch of sugar. Mix gently until the rice is uniformly colored and flavored.
  14. 5. To Make Mexican Rice:
  15. In a small skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  16. Stir in the tomato sauce, ground cumin, and chili powder. Cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the spices to toast slightly.
  17. Combine this mixture with one portion of hot cooked rice and stir in the fresh cilantro until well incorporated.
  18. 6. To Make Coconut Lime Rice:
  19. To one portion of hot cooked rice, stir in the full-fat coconut milk, fresh lime juice, lime zest, and a pinch of salt. Mix gently until the coconut milk is fully absorbed and the rice is fragrant.
  20. 7. To Make Mushroom Thyme Rice:
  21. In a small skillet, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and have released their liquid. Add the minced garlic and fresh or dried thyme and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  22. Combine the sautéed mushroom mixture with one portion of hot cooked rice, season with salt and black pepper, and mix gently.
  23. 8. To Make Spicy Sriracha Rice:
  24. To one portion of hot cooked rice, add the Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine. Garnish with chopped scallions before serving.
  25. 9. To Make Turmeric Ginger Rice:
  26. To one portion of hot cooked rice, stir in the ground turmeric, grated fresh ginger, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix thoroughly until the rice is evenly golden. Garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
