Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth (optional, for thinning)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 (16 oz) bag frozen dumplings (e.g., pork & vegetable, chicken)
- 2 cups fresh spinach (optional)
- 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the marinara sauce, broth (if using), Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. If using, stir in the fresh spinach until it wilts.
- Spread about half of the sauce mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange the frozen dumplings in a single layer over the sauce.
- Pour the remaining sauce over the dumplings, ensuring they are mostly covered.
- Sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown, and the dumplings are cooked through and tender.
- Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
